What is an SFP transceiver?

SFP transceivers come in 1G and 2G Fibre Channel (FC) varieties and in 100M and 1000M Ethernet. Smartoptics SFP modules are used for Fast Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet, BiDi, SDH Sonet, and for 4G.

Range of Smartoptics SFP modules

The SO-SFP-100Base single-mode SFP transceiver series is for duplex optical data communications such as Fast Ethernet and SDH/SONET at speeds of 10M to 100M. The next step up is the SO-SFP-1000BASE single-mode SFP transceiver series for serial optical data communications such as Gigabit Ethernet (1G) and Fibre Channel (1G).

The SO-SFP-1000BASE-BX is also available for single fiber operations using BiDi technology and FTTH networks. For SFP with data rates up to 2.7G, the SO-SFP-MR multi-rate transceiver series is available covering a wide range of formats, such as the SDH/SONET range, STM-1/OC-3 to STM-16/OC-48, and 1Gbps Ethernet (GbE) services.

SFP DAC and AOC

SFP Direct Attach Copper (DAC) cables provide a complete cable assembly instead of discrete components for short-distance connectivity. SFP Active Optical Cables (AOCs) are also complete cable assemblies but use real transceivers and are suitable for longer distances.
