Open software for optical networks
SoSmart brings Smartoptics’ open optical philosophy into network management software. Built on open APIs and standard protocols, the platform provides a flexible foundation for managing optical infrastructure in open multi-layer environments. The three modules of the suite – SoSmart Planner, SoSmart Controller, and SoSmart Manager – support different stages of network operations.
OPTICAL PLANNING AND SIMULATION TOOL
SoSmart Planner
SoSmart Planner helps network planners design optical networks and validate service feasibility before deployment. It uses the GNPy Gaussian Noise model to estimate optical performance in WDM networks and validate service feasibility. It also enables route simulation and amplifier scenario testing under realistic conditions. Flexgrid support and capacity planning tools help network teams allocate spectrum more precisely and plan high-capacity services with greater confidence.
NETWORK OPERATIONS AND MANAGEMENT
SoSmart Manager
SoSmart Manager provides a single interface for provisioning, monitoring, and operating the optical network. Guided workflows simplify service activation, while topology views, service paths, and fiber-level visibility help network teams understand how traffic moves through the infrastructure. Monitoring, alarms, and pre-provisioning tools support faster troubleshooting and more efficient coordination across distributed network environments.
SDN CONTROL AND ORCHESTRATION
SoSmart Controller
SoSmart Controller provides the control and orchestration layer of the suite. Based on TransportPCE, it supports topology management, path computation, and service control in ROADM-based optical networks through open interfaces. This enables SoSmart to configure network elements, automate service workflows, and integrate with higher-layer controllers or orchestration systems in environments that require flexibility and interoperability.
