About the opportunity

Smartoptics is looking for a Production Test Development Engineer to help build the next generation of our production environment in Kista. You will combine software, hardware, optics, robotics, data, and system integration to make production testing smarter, faster, and more scalable.

Main Objective

Develop, improve, and maintain the production test systems, automation, and digital tools used to manufacture Smartoptics products. The role ensures reliable test performance, efficient industrialization, strong traceability, and scalable production capability.

Responsibilities

Production Test Development

  • Design and develop hardware and software for automated and semi-automated production testing.
  • Create test setups, fixtures, and reusable test sequences; integrate optical components, instruments, and production equipment.
  • Ensure test solutions are reliable, repeatable, maintainable, and ready to scale across products and stations.
  • Improve test coverage, first-pass yield, cycle time, repeatability, and production efficiency using test and process data.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and production issues; lead root-cause analysis and implement sustainable corrective actions.
  • Work closely with R&D, Production Engineering, Quality, and Operations on new product introduction, Design for Testability, and Design for Manufacturing.

Software, Automation and AI

  • Develop and maintain production applications, automated systems, and databases.
  • Apply sound software engineering practices, including Git, code review, documentation, testing, and controlled deployment.
  • Use AI-assisted development tools and explore practical AI applications for development, troubleshooting, log analysis, failure classification, and process optimization.

Robotics and Connected Manufacturing

  • Develop and integrate robots, cobots, sensors, vision systems, fixtures, and automated equipment.
  • Connect test systems and production tools with our ERP system and other operational platforms through robust, automated data flows.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Relevant degree in engineering, computer science, electronics, automation, photonics, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Strong programming and software development skills.
  • Structured, hands-on problem solver who can work independently and collaborate across functions.
  • Fluent in Swedish and English, both written and spoken

The following experience is considered an advantage

  • Experience developing automated production test systems or industrial automation solutions.
  • Experience with programming languages such as C# and Python.
  • Experience with scripting and automation, particularly Linux shell scripting (e.g. Bash).
  • Experience integrating software with hardware, instruments, APIs, and databases.
  • Experience with electronics and embedded Linux systems.
  • Experience with production data, product traceability, and ERP or MES integration.
  • Experience with robotics, cobots, machine vision, sensors, or other automated production equipment.
  • Experience with optical systems, photonics, or telecommunications hardware.
