Oslo, Norway – November 19 2020 – Smartoptics, a leading provider of optical networking solutions, today announced the availability of a new series of 32G Fibre Channel transceivers, intended for use in Brocade Gen 7 directors and switches. Smartoptics is already a provider of 8G, 16G and 32G certified Fibre Channel (FC) transceivers for previous generations of Brocade switches, and the new offering extends this capability to Brocade Gen 7 directors and switches.
The new Smartoptics 32G FC transceivers have been rigorously tested and are qualified for use in Brocade Gen 7 FC directors and switches from Broadcom. The simplicity of the combined solution enables a reduced overall footprint, low power consumption, and an improved time to operation due to short delivery and installation time of new transceivers.
The transceiver modules come in the industry standard SFP28 form factor and are designed for DWDM optical communication compliant to 8G, 16G and 32G FC standards. The transceivers can be used with passive filters or together with Smartoptics’ active open line systems to extend the reach up to 80 km between datacenters.
Per Burman, Chief Marketing Officer Smartoptics, commented: “We are very pleased to be able to offer the only approved DWDM transceivers for Brocade Gen 7 products. With our new 32G Fibre Channel transceivers we can now support customers when upgrading to Broadcom’s recently launched Brocade Gen 7 products and solutions.”
“Broadcom and Smartoptics have a long history of collaboration and innovation in the Fibre Channel market,” said Martin Skagen, vice president of architecture and technology, Brocade Storage Networking division, Broadcom. “Brocade Gen 7 switches with Smartoptics transceivers have been tested and qualified, enabling our mutual customers to deploy distance connectivity solutions with confidence.”
